The Free Territory, formally the Democratic Confederation of the Free Territory, is an anarchist territory in the northwest of the Central Sea. It is one of the only communist states in the world alongside Ratzores, one of only two chiblocker states alongside the Khanate, and one of the only anarchist societies alongside Fryslân. The society is currently run by the President of the Executive Council QueenOfRoses. The Free Territory is a member of the Princes of Andorra alliance, as QueenOfRoses is a Co-Princess of Andorra also.
History
The Free Territory was founded on January 6th 2021. It was the third state to be established on the Central Sea, placing it in direct contact with the Water Tribe and Cassland, but also was at the location on the Central Sea which placed it the closest to Air Nation. This ensured at an early stage that the Territory would be a vital trade link, connecting the states near the Spawn Lake to the Central Sea.
The Free Territory made history as the first ever chiblocker society and first official anarchist society, but it soon redefined the entire region with its innovations in maritime technology. The first shipwreck to be salvaged to sail, recovered by Cass, was donated to the fledgling state and was renamed to FTS (Free Territory Ship) Kirov, thus naming the Kirov-class to this day. With the proliferation of Kirov's, the Territory began another innovation with the release of the first ever stoneclad warship, FTS Stonewall. This was the first ship to be given armor and the stonebrick armor standard would remain the cutting edge of ship armor, until July 2021 where this would be upgraded to use endstone brick instead.
The development of stoneclads led to a brief arms race between the Free Territory and Earth Kingdom, with many anticipating a conflict over dominance of the seas. This was eventually resolved through means no-one could have expected. Andorra was founded by Kami and sought two co-princes to act as protectors, selecting its two nearest neighbors.
The Free Territory joined the Mexican War, as per its alliance with Andorra following the Andorra Incident. The first battle of the war took place at Freeport, with Earth Kingdom forces defeated by New Mexicans in a brief raid. Free Territory forces would prove to be some of the most effective fighters throughout the conflict, claiming the only breaking of one of Kate's totems of undying. Unfortunately, this success would not last due to the rest of the coalition not properly supporting, and this early success was lost. Following the war, the Free Territory acquired the fort island that had begun the conflict. A lease was given to the Earth Kingdom in May 2022 ceding the island, renamed Fort Andorra.
With the World Regeneration, the Free Territory gained a new village in Puerto del Este, and with it, access to the Velik Sea. At this time, The Exile took place which saw many Galethii tribespeople enter the Free Territory's borders. Tensions with the Galethii were initially high as the Comrade-General ordered them rounded up into camps to prevent xenophobic violence, in which the conditions were very poor. In time, the Galethii would be offered territory to the north where they would run an autonomous state known as the Galethii Free State, the first independent NPC state. The Galethii would go on to constitute a significant minority within the Free Territory and are a frequent sight in Freeport and Puerto del Este.
Second Freeport Revolution
In June 2022, during the Spirit War and following the Oksana Controversy, massive protests broke out in the streets of Freeport and Puerto del Este. Additional protests occurred in the Galethii Free State. The protestors demanded lower prices for basic staples, the reinstatement of Admiral Oksana, and the end to the political terror of the PAIS. Over the next five days, military units would defect, Freeport would devolve into a war zone, and a clique of generals and admirals would eventually overthrow the Comrade-General before establishing a temporary Military Government under Admirals Kozulov and Oksana.
In the aftermath of the revolution, elections were held for a constitutional convention. A resounding majority was won by the United Left Coalition, a broad group of leftist political parties which included the Anarchist Alliance, the Communist Party of the Free Territory, the Federation of Labor, and the Eco-Socialist Party of the Free Territory. Also represented was the Galethii Revival Association and the Union of Progress and Liberty. The Charter Convention would draft the Social Contract and Constitution of the Free Territory to replace the former charter of the Comrade-General's regime. The Constitution was approved in a referendum by 64% of the voters on July 22, 2022. New elections were held on July 30, the first of the new government, returning a majority for the BLANK and electing BLANK to be President of the Executive Council.
Geography
The Free Territory is one of the smaller states of the world, being concentrated around Freeport Bay and the surrounding waters. This coastline hosts the settlements of Freeport and Yalinya, as well as the air and sea base of Fort Makhno. The Territory also controls territory on the Velik Sea to its east, including the port of Puerto del Este.
Government and politics
The Free Territory's model of government is unique in that it is the only existing society to abide by the principles of democratic confederalism. The territory is led by the Executive Council and the Democratic Confederal Assembly, the result of a recent revolution and constitutional reform.
