Quotes from the War of the Flowers
The following is a list of speeches, or notable quotes, given by figures during the War of the Flowers. Due to the lack of writing in the tribes, as well as the extinction of the Senerii, we are not aware of any speeches given by tribal leaders during the conflict. The following list is therefore only speeches given by figures in or adjacent to the Fire Nation.
Firelord Alweglim
"Dear friends, children of fire.
A great sin has been committed against our great nation. A fellow child of fire has been murdered, their blood has been spilt on holy soil. Furthermore my will has been defied, and therefore the will of the Creator has been defied. A great trespass against our Nation of Fire has been committed, and through our Holy Book we know this deserved punishment. Know that Fire and Death will rain down on those who oppose us.
Punishment must happen. This is required, it is unavoidable. It us up to us, the All-father's chosen, to deliver this punishment.
We have learnt that the path forward is through labour, prayer and patience. For centuries we sought the blessings of our Fathers, and they did send us a sign. Our prosperity, our great and fertile capital was given to us by our Fathers.
My loyal subjects, righteous punishment will be delivered to these pagans, but we must not rush into action. By sending spies to gain understanding of the region and its inhabitants, we can find the most effective and virtuous way to deliver justice."
- speech by Firelord Alweglim. This marks the beginning of the War of Flowers, following the death of Fire Nation soldiers and spies who had entered Othii territory without permission.
"At last the All-father's plea for punishment will be answered. My brethren, we finally stand at the gates of our enemy. We have been guided here by the hands of the All-father and the Creator, and their will shall be done. The wretched Othii will be no more!
To assure the glorious and righteous victory the Gods demand we should use the assistance from all those who can see how just we are in our campaign. The Kaerii may be pagan barbarians today, but this battle will be their baptism by fire. They will see the glory that the Church of Fire represents!
Children of Fire! Remember the fallen at Mount Alweglim, avenge them! Blood, fire and glory awaits!"
- short speech given by the Firelord before the brief Battle of Othii River.
"Faithful, brave and proud Children of Fire! We have seen many glorious victories in this campaign, and we have lost many brave brothers and sisters. My great friend the Baron has been by our side during these victories, he has shed blood just as much as he has. He has arrived here to save us from being overwhelmed. Let's return the favour, let's finish off these barbaric pagans! For the All-Father, charge!"
- short speech given by Firelord Alweglim before charging Othii Hill, a strategic high ground during the Battle of the Four Armies.
"These pagans are not to be trusted. They either falsely believe our God to be evil or they are cursed by him.
They believe in blood debt, so the Baron's request should be more than understandable to them.
The rest will be given a choice. They can convert to the Church of Fire in exchange for land to settle in our newly conquered territories. If not they will lay down their arms and march far to the south, never to set foot in these lands again.
Arkala himself will be taken to Fenixholm where he will be put in house arrest, to ensure his men to do not cause any trouble while they move out of our lands.
Arkala will either agree to our demands or see his entire people crushed."
- pronouncement given following Arkala's request to peacefully withdraw Senerii forces. "The Baron's request" refers to a demand that for every fallen Even Newer Mexican soldier, one Senerii would be executed.
"Dear brothers and sisters of the Fire Nation. We stand here today to remember the brave warriors who fell during the Battle of Mount Alweglim. Thanks to their heroic sacrifices we struck an immense blow to our enemy, a blow that they never recovered from. Today we stand here, proud and victorious. We will always remember our fallen sisters and brothers, and we will always fight for our glorious Fire Nation to protect their legacy!" We will gather the belongings of our fallen soldiers and ensure its delivered to the families they left behind. The Othii dead will be buried in mass graves. Not as a sign of respect, but to make sure that these lands are hospitable and welcoming to Fire Nation settlers."
- victory speech given at Mount Alweglim, following the victory over the tribes. The Firelord suffered an assassination attempt shortly after speaking.
The Baron
"Brethren, friends, citizens. I swore many years ago never to wage an unjust war, and never to leave a just war unfinished. We, the brave folk of Even Newer Mexico, the Illustrious Queen of Nations, did not choose this war, nor did our brothers and sisters of the Fire Nation. It was forced upon us by the savage, unholy men that call these plains home. That makes this a just war, by my reckoning, and thus we must venture to finish it. By the light of the Fathers we are blessed, my children, may our faith steel us and their warmth give strength to our arms, for one way or another tomorrow dawns red!"
- speech given before engaging Senerii forces at the Battle of the Four Armies. Even Newer Mexican forces fought an enemy that outnumbered them roughly 5 to 1, suffering extremely high casualties.
"If it were up to me we’d kill them all, mount this Arkala's head on our standard and burn his people out of their homes and drive them into the sea. In this matter however I defer to your decision. Nonetheless, I have one demand: for every dead legionnaire of Even Newer Mexico the life of one senerii warrior must be given in penance"
- commentary given during Arkala's surrender negotiations, including the famous Baron's Demand.
Arkala
"Our people reject the sun, for the sun brought the spirits. The moon protected us as all the tribes were driven out of our homeland. The sun represents false life, the fire that destroys inner fire. I understand you to be a man, like myself, but the tribes understand you as nothing but spirits. Spirits that will destroy everything once again."
- a remark given to Firelord Alweglim during surrender negotiations at the Battle of the Four Armies. This quote also serves as an excellent summary of the Carnii faith adopted by other tribes known as the Cult of the Moon.
"We do not accept your terms. We will never be compelled to flight by the sun's demons again. We will not join your ranks of destruction. We will fight to the end. DURUZ SENERII!"
- Arkala's, and the Senerii tribe's, final words
Runelord
"My Firelord, if I may, these pagans have clearly stated the sun, our holy image and icon of the All father, to be a false god. Hedonism in its most grotesque form. Further yet, when war was declared upon the holy nation of the All father, they saw us, the All fathers children with the royal regent, as nothing more than a lowly vassalage option.
Many good men have lost their lives today, some of them I knew personally. They were fathers, brother, sons. What grave fate has fallen upon them, I do not wish upon anyone but Alas, their families, their children, their wives, they will not forget and they will not forgive without punishment. As the baron demands one life for one life lost, an eye for an eye, I agree. However, if the people of our holy nation shall accept the fate of their faithful, loyal warriors, the holy texts of the All father must be honored. Fire may be a holy eternal symbol, but it is one that as benevolent it is wrathful. And as it is wrathful, so it demands, that the dead lying upon these lands have been avenged.
We, the fire nation declared ourselves as peacekeepers. War was declared on us. Let then the world know, the FIRE NATION is not one to be trifled with!
Burn everyone, may the All father sancify their pagan spirits in his eternal flame"
- an argument given during Arkala's surrender negotiations. Runelord was able to seriously improve his status by giving this speech, as his ritual burning took place shortly afterwards. He would go on to save the Firelord's life in Askhamn by organising his medical recovery from an assassination attempt at Mount Alweglim.
Snigelsekret
"Letter to Firelord Alweglim
Your Radiant Majesty, Alweglim, Lord of Fire, Emperor of Embers, Sovereign of Cinder And Flame, Baron of Brimstone, Ashbringer, The All-Father's Will Made Flesh
News of your recovery fills me with joy. The priests at Fenixholm holds public prayers for your swift recovery and I do not doubt they will, as I do, see your miraculous recovery as a sign of your true and God given authority and power over this proud nation!
However, the recent events at mount Alweg fills not just me but the rest of your faithful subjects with rage and dispare. I have worked tirelessly on finding the culprit and all I can say in this letter is that I am closing in on the bigger picture. This outrageous act of treason not only to you but to the All Father himself will not go unpunished!
Until we have all the information on these foul creatures I would strongly advise you to watch out, I am not sure we have seen the last of this.
Your faithful subject
Snigelsekret"
- a letter sent by Snigelsekret to the Firelord following news of his early recovery from the assassination attempt. Snigelsekret had been mediating the Karkken Crisis during the course of the war, and was thus in Fenixholm.
