Polaris Docks

The Polaris Docks are the shipping area of the city of Polaris, and the primary trade node of the Water Tribe. It is one of the largest ports in the world and hosts the New Frontiers Mercantile Company's headquarters.

Construction

The docks are made primarily of Packed Ice, with Blue Ice also used. This unusual material makes it possibly the most well-defended port in the world - the local [icebenders|Icebending] can use these blocks as unlimited bending sources, so literally the entire docks can be used as a defensive or offensive weapon source. While other elements are not incapacitated on the docks (except for earthbending, because the floor is entirely made of ice), the fact that the floor is the enemy's element can never be ideal.

Capacity

Conservatively, the docks can fit 22 average ships. Canoes are used by the local Polarians as a method of getting around without the sheer bulk. At any given time, the docks are usually mostly empty due to the lack of this much sea traffic existing in the region. It does host elements of the Water Tribe fleet, as well as ships from the NFMC. The NFMC's warehouse is nearby, guaranteeing that the storage space of the docks is probably the highest in the world.

Regional role

The docks are considered one of the major sites of the region, and consistently outcompete the smaller dock of Port Cass for shipping traffic. The nearest serious competitors are Freeport and Willowham. The docks also act as a gateway between the Central Sea region and the straits to the south, leading to Willowham and the Southern Sea.
