The Earth Army is the ground and aerial warfare force of the Earth Kingdom which, together with the Earth Navy, makes up the military of the Earth Kingdom.
Like the Navy, the Earth Aavy answers directly to the Earth King and is not accountable to the civilian government of the Earth Kingdom. Due to this structure, the military has been accused by observers of having undue influence and power in the Earth Kingdom at the expense of the government and nobility.
History
Organization

The Earth Army comprises three commands and an autonomous air corps. The three commands are the Northern Frontier Command, the Western Frontier Command and the Royal Army. The latter formation encompasses the large majority of all Earth Army units and personnel, while the former two are relatively small garrison detachments with highly limited mobility.
The basic organizational unit of the Earth Army is the regiment, although the term is loosely used for formations that range in size from battalions to overstrength brigades. Regiments are both administrative and tactical formations. In manoeuvre units, the basic tactical unit is instead the battalion, with each separate battalion capable of mounting autonomous operations. Corps and divisions do not exist in the Earth Army in peacetime, but may be assembled ad hoc in event of military necessity.
Air Corps
The Earth Army Air Corps is the aerial warfare branch of the Earth Army. The Air Corps is responsible for defending the Earth Kingdom's land, coastlines and airspace against all enemy threats from the air, ground and sea, in addition to providing airlift, close air support and resupply capabilities to Army ground units. As a result, the Air Corps operates a variety of fighter, bomber and utility aircraft.
The Air Corps is organized into squadrons. As of 28 May 2022, the squadrons are:
- No. 1 Army Aviation (Fighter) Squadron (3x F-1/G Bosco)—Fort Kyoshi
- No. 2 Army Aviation (Fighter) Squadron (3x F-1/G Bosco)—Canal Zone
- No. 3 Army Aviation (Bombardment) Squadron (3x B-10/A Turtle)—Fort Kyoshi

Airborne Regiment
His Majesty's Airborne Infantry Regiment, commonly known as the Airborne Regiment (AB RGT), is an elite airborne infantry regiment of the Earth Army that serves as its special operations unit. The unit, which is based at Fort Kyoshi, is made up of three battalions and two permanently attached Army Air Corps helicopter squadrons.
The Airborne Regiment is a highly mobile light infantry unit whose purpose is to seize contested key terrain and to undertake surprise operations behind enemy lines. To achieve these goals, the regiment trains in paradrops from airships into hostile territory and contested helicopter-borne air assaults against weak points in enemy lines. All recruits to the Airborne Regiment are earthbenders to take advantage of benders' natural landing abilities.
The Airborne Regiment's equivalent in the Earth Navy is the Metalbender Marine Corps.
