The Upper Gale Mountains are a mountain range. The area is sparsely settled but the major settlements of Clannahare, Fledushkra, and Riversway are all in its shadow. The mountain range defines much of the Air Nation's southern border and is considered by many Southern Temple Empyreans to be sacred. The Southern Temple is built directly on top of one of the peaks.

The only known crossing of the mountains transpired during the Exile, when the Toshkii people arrived in Air Nation territory after being forced westwards by the rise of the Spirit Wilds. The Toshkii, and their Galethii cousins, would come to revere the Gales as holy protectors for saving them from the spirits. While worship of mountains was deeply frowned upon by the Air Nation, the worthiness of the mountains as a defensive structure remains unquestioned. During Operation Righteous Zephyr, the Air Nation army was successfully able to reclaim lost fortifications in the mountains, namely Fort Toshkii, and push into the wilds.

At Riversway, the Upper Gales form the eastern boundary of the Gale Valley.
