The Battle of Ljouwert Baai was a small engagement between the Frisian anarcho-capitalist Yarrsje and a Frisian communist ship. This was the first hostile naval action in the server's history. The anarcho-capitalists were victorious and destroyed the communist ship, but took heavy damage themselves in the process. The communist admiral, Sytze Boatsma, was captured and is currently imprisoned.

While the anarcho-capitalists achieved an initial tactical and strategic victory, the ire of the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribe were drawn by the engagement initially having taken place near the Amity Isles, a joint condominium of the two powers. Even after the battle relocated, the threat to the Western Canal was deemed too serious. Accordingly, the two powers imposed a quarantine on Ljouwert which only harshened over time, as attempts to relieve Ljouwert by air failed.
