The Third Mexican Empire is a country in the Eastern Sea. It once occupied approximately half of all the terracotta in the known world.

History

The empire's origins lie in Mexico, first settled by spirits. With the collapse of this state and annexation by the Air Nation, a new and highly industrious administration of airbenders began a major industrial and population build-up for the previously sleepy settlement. This new administration adopted the language of the old nation, but spirits were never fully integrated with the airbender elite. This ambition unfortunately led to rebellion against the Air Nation government and the Mexican War, which the rebels lost. This created a wave of refugees, airbender and spirit alike.

Airbender refugees largely resettled in the Northern Temple of the Air Nation, seeking to reintegrate to airbender society. Spirits, seeing their homeland distorted beyond recognition by war and industry, instead chose to relocate much further away. The biome they chose was known beforehand, having been used for material to pursue construction works in the Southern Temple. In order to distance themselves from their old homeland, they proclaimed the Third Mexican Empire.

Geography

In most of the world, terracotta is a remote and costly material to procure compared to agricultural land. The inverse is true in the empire. Most of the empire's landmass is entirely composed of terracotta, yet arable land is scarce. Trade missions have taken place with Atlas and Arboris to address this balance, selling lucrative terracotta in large quantities to the western states in exchange for planks, saplings, and other plantlife.

As an Eastern Sea state, Mexican diplomacy is heavily oriented to its nearest neighbours of the Fire Nation and Arboris. Upon the Opening of the Southern Canal, the Mexican ship Liberdad was the first to cross to the other side.
