History

Originating from a group of tribes which formed a loose confederation in 1266, and the unitary government which followed it in 1916, the Poblacht was offically declared on the 3rd of Feburary 2022 when all counties formally voted to join into the Dáil Saifírann and enter into a unitary parliamentary republic. Due to their long history of only loose cooperation leading to little growth, the Saifírinnach have grown to believe that only a unitary government with a strong leadership could properly guide the nation they were aiming to found, and thus began a tradition of growing more centralized and a tradition of strong democratic rule, guided by a Taoiseach, known to others as a Prime Minister.

Geography

Situated on an island in the far Eastern Sea, occasionally referred to as the Sapphire Sea by the Saifírinnach, the population is able to flourish in relatively flat, fertile, forested land. Possesing a number of protected waters and natural ports, most Saifírinnach settlements and cities have sprung up near these protected waters and led to a strong history of water travel and trade by sea.

Government and politics

The Dáil, long awaited as a governing body for all the people of the Republic, officially swore in its members on the 15th of Feburary 2023, after the elections carried out weeks prior. Out of 60 seats, 28 have gone to Sinn Féin, the liberal party, who have formed a coalition with the Labour Party, the Democratic Socialists, who received 6 seats. 20 seats have gone to Fine Gael, the Conservative faction, who have formed an opposition coalition with the Sapphire Party, the Nationalist faction, who also received 6 seats. The Dáil functions as a bicameral pariament, with an upper and lower house. The upper house, led by the Taoiseach, performs almost all of the functions of Government, while the Upper House, led by the Uachataran, performs the duties of ensuring the legality and stability of laws passed by the Lower House through a review process.

The Taoiseach functions as a Prime Minister and, along with the appointed heads of the various government ministries, runs the main focuses of government such as running the meetings of the Dáil and preparing a list of proposed legislation, acting as commander in chief of the military, the Saifir Defence Force, and communicating with international leaders.

The Saifir Defence Forces act as a military branch for the Poblacht and consist of the Ground Self Defence Force, the Maritime Security Forces, and the Saifir Air Defence Force. It consists, as of the 22nd of Feburary 2023 of approximately 12,000 members in the GSDF organized into three Brigades, 1,500 members in the MSF, and 1,000 members in the SADF.

Economy

Saifir primarily focuses on exports of wool, potatoes, and various industrial and construction goods. Most of these goods originate from Derry or Cill Airne, while most of the business headquarters occupy spots in Cork. Much of the economy is reliant on shipping between Cill Airne, the industrial base, and Cork, where the goods are either put up to market in Cork or put onto larger cargo vessels and sent to international markets.

Demographics

The population of 6,500,000 is primarily Saifírinnach, though approximately 25,000 are Polarian refugees who came from Australis after the SDF sent a humanitarian mission there to assist in the crisis of refugees flowing into Australis. The population is primarily sited in Cork, with a population of 3,250,000. Derry, located midway between Cork and Cill Airne, is the smallest city with a population of 750,000. Cill Airne has a population of 2,250,000 and sits as the primary industrial base for the nation. The other 250,000 residents live scattered across the country side in small towns, villages, and farms.

Culture

The culture of the Saifírinnach mostly orbits around charity and doing the best for the common good of all peoples. Professing mostly a religion simply known as "The Good", with the religion mostly focusing around private practice of the religion with one's family, leading to it not making much of a public apperance. The most popular community gathering, instead of religion, is sport with most of the population participating in one form or another in the national sport: Pitchball. Consisting primarily of kicking around a small black and white air filled hollow rubber ball, with the aim being to score a goal against the other team by gaining control of the ball, kicking it down the pitchball "pitch", or playing field, and kicking it inbetween two posts set up as the goal posts.
