The Battle of Besorrowed Gorge was a military engagement between the Earth Kingdom and the National Committee for the Liberation of Omashu (NCLO), a clandestine exile group of Kingdom of Omashu loyalists. The battle was precipited when Earth King Ainin and the crew of the royal yacht ENS Andorra were attacked and abducted by NCLO fighters while transiting the Cape of Omashu on the way from Fort Bosco to Ba Sing Se. The captives were imprisoned in a cave system beneath a gorge in the uncharted western continent of Tiansi, with the NCLO demanding that the Earth Kingdom withdraw from Omashu and restore the independent kingdom in return for their release.
