The Thalassic Confederation is an island nation in the Southern Sea.
History
The Thalassic Confederation was founded with the ratification of its constitution on March 13th, 2022.
Geography
The Confederation is composed of several islands with a wide variation in size. Its capital is Fishbone Island in central South Coral Sea.
Government and politics
Governing power in the Confederation is divided between the Parent (head of state), the Council of Stability, the Intrainsular Court, and the Confederal Parliament, which is commonly referred to as the Fishbone Parliament after Fishbone Island. Originally disregarded as an insignificant institution, the Intrainsular Court asserted its power by reviewing decisions by the Office of the Parent in the case Po'one v. Parent.
Parliamentary politics are dominated by debates over regionalism and the powers of the central Confederal government. The regions of the Confederation have varying forms of government, from the "pseudo-anarchist" society of Greenstone (Mukelenoa: Vavilona) to the absolute monarchy of Arborharbor, the largest and most populous island outside of the Northern Territories.
Economy
The Thalassic Confederation relies heavily on trade and fishing, and maintains special terracotta mining privileges with the Frontier. In a controversial effort to expand the economy and raise revenue, Mother Samara created state-owned enterprises dedicated to logging, mining, and shipbuilding.
Demographics
The population of the Confederation is predominantly of the Mukeleno or the closely related Greenstonites. The latter speak a dialect of Mukelenoa but are considered a distinct ethnic group for their plant-bending and unique culture. A village to the north populated by the "Codders," a group believe to be related to the Tribespeople of the Water Tribe, also joined the Confederation. To the south are the South Islanders, a distinct ethnic group which also populates the islands to the south of the Confederation.
Culture
The culture of the Confederation is dominated by Mukelenoa traditions. The primary religion is the dualistic Mukelenoa folk religion sometimes called the Cult of Ta and Hinana.
