The Amity Islands are two islands in the Central Sea that are held under a joint condominium by the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribe. Near the state of Fryslân, the islands are demilitarised and unoccupied in order to secure strategic assurances by the two partners in its condominium status. By keeping them pacified, the Earth Kingdom prevents the nearest islands to Ba Sing Se from becoming forward bases to attack their capital, as well as keep their connection to the Western Canal secure. The Water Tribe gains the security of Columnstown as well as a site for future EK-WT collaboration projects.
